PURPOSE: To secure an accurate decision for the character region frame by inspecting the error component of the paper caused by its expansion and contraction centering on the normal standard timing signal and then producing the standard timing pulse to correct the error component.
CONSTITUTION: Based on signal S2 which detected end I of the paper, normal standard signal S3 and tentative standard signal S4-1 are set up, and then signal S6 is decided to show the sufficient inspection region for correction of the error component of the character region written outside the character frame as well as the expansion and contraction of the paper centering on the pulse of S3. Then the inspection is given as to the presence or absence of the black bit row which is under the reference number decided previously by viewing concurrently the two rows which are apart by the pulse interval of S3 from the ends of two inspection regions 5-1 and 5-2. As a result, in case even one unit of two rows which become the white rows simultaneously exists, the separation of the characters there is decided. And thus character region 6-1 is decided for S1 with pulses 4-2A and 4-2B of tentative standard signal S4-2 defined as the front and rear ends each.
