To prevent decrease in sensitivity of an electrophotographic photoreceptor caused by an acid component in a cleaning liquid comprising an org. solvent which is used to clean a base body of an electrophotographic photoreceptor by cleaning the body while removing the acid component in the cleaning liquid.

In the cleaning method of a base body of an electrophotographic photoreceptor including a process to clean the conductive base body with a cleaning liquid comprising an org. solvent, the body is cleaned while an acid component in the cleaning liquid is removed from the liquid. As for a method to remove the acid component in the cleaning liquid comprising an org. solvent, an adsorption method, distillation method, etc., can be used. Cleaning while removing the acid component is effective to stabilize the cleaning quality. Namely, by cleaning the body while removing the acid component which is produced by oxidation of the cleaning liquid comprising an org. solvent, corrosion of the conductive base body can be prevented. Therefore, decrease in the sensitivity in a photographic photoreceptor can be prevented.
