PURPOSE: To form Co3O4-contg. zeolite of a specified particle diameter by firing cobalt acetate hydroxide-contg. zeolite or cobalt oxalate-contg. zeolite in the presence of oxygen.
CONSTITUTION: Prescribed amts. of zeolite and cobalt acetate are added to one or more kinds of monohydric alcohols such as ethanol and they are stirred for several hr under heating at 30-95°C, washed with monohydric alcohol and dried to prepare cobalt acetate hydroxide-contg. zeolite. This zeolite is fired at 250-950°C while circulating gas having 0-22vol.% O2 concn. at ≥400hr1 space velocity to obtain zeolite of ≥5,000 particle diameter contg. 0.5-30wt.% Co3O4. In other way, zeolite and cobalt oxalate are added to monohydric alcohol and stirred under heating and the resulting cobalt oxalate-contg. zeolite is fired at 300-950°C in O2-contg. gas to obtain Co3O4-contg. zeolite of ≤5,000 particle diameter.
