Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a coated tool member having a hard layer on the surface and excellent in wear resistance and chipping resistance.
CONSTITUTION: In a coated tool member of a coated cemented carbide member or a coated ceramic member whose surface is provided with a hard coating layer 1, the structure in which at least a part of cracks 3 in the coating layer generated in the process of coating or after coating is filled with a filling material 4 constituted of metal and/or ceramics is formed. Thus, the coated tool member excellent in wear resistance and chipping resistance and having high performance withstanding severe cutting conditions of high speed and high efficiency in which the cutting temp. is apt to rise, can be produced.
