Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To elongate life of a cold cathode discharge lamp.
SOLUTION: The cold cathode discharge tube is provided with a glass tube (2), a pair of electrodes (7) fixed at both ends of the glass tube (2), a luminous layer (5) formed on the inside face of the glass tube (7), rare gas and mercury enclosed inside the glass tube (2). A pair of electrode neighborhood areas (12) including the pair of electrodes arranged at the both ends of the inside of the glass tube (2) and an effective luminous area (13) pinched between the pair of electrode neighborhood areas inside the glass tube (2) are formed. Since almost all liquid mercury remaining at time of lighting exists locally or totally intensively in the effective luminous area (13), coating on mercury with sputtered matter can be avoided.
