To provide a collision damage alleviation device of a vehicle for correctly detecting the existence of an obstacle by detecting the peripheral circumstances of the vehicle in a non-contact status, and detecting that any obstacle approaches the periphery of the vehicle, and projecting a detection device from the periphery of the vehicle, and bringing it into contact with the obstacle when a detection signal is obtained.

The collision damage alleviation device of a vehicle is configured to detect the peripheral obstacle of a vehicle, and to prevent its collision with this obstacle, and provided with either of: a first detection device installed in the periphery of the vehicle for detecting the circumstances of the vehicle in a non-contact status or a first obstacle detection device for detecting that the obstacle has approached the periphery of the vehicle based on information from the outside of the vehicle; and a second obstacle detection device installed in the periphery of the vehicle for detecting the peripheral circumstances of the vehicle in a contact status. When the obstacle is detected by either the first detection device or the first obstacle detection device, the second obstacle detection device is projected to the outside of the vehicle, and the obstacle is detected.
