PURPOSE: To give high rsolving power, high durability, etc. by providing the light shadable barrier walls comprising essentially chalcogen glass between respective color element layers in a color filter used for a solid state image sensing device, etc.

CONSTITUTION: A mordanting layer 2 is formed by Al2O3 or resins such as polyvinyl alcohol on a transparent substrate 1, after which a chalocogen layer 3 comprising essentially one or more of S, SeTe is formed by a vapor deposition method. Frames 4 of chalocogen glass are directly formed by using a grating-shaped mask or it is equaly well to make light shadability further better by forming a thin layer of Ag, Cu, etc. on the layer 3 then exposing the same by the use of a grating-shaped mask thence removing the parts other than the exposed part by an aqueous alkaline solution thereby forming the frames 4. Next, respective dyes of red R, green G and blue B are successively evaporated on the layer 2 with the grating 5 as a mask, whereby a color mask 7 is obtained.
