PURPOSE: To simplify the connection of 2 optical fibers by dissolving the terminal core of one optical fiber into a core dissolving solution to form a concave part and also dissolving the terminal clad of the other optical fiber into a glad dissolving solution to form a convex part.
CONSTITUTION: When the terminal of one optical fiber 1A is dipped into a core dissolving solution, for example, consisting of hydrofluoric acide in a vessel 2 by the prescribed depth for a subscribed period, only the core of the fiber 1A is dissolved and concave parts 61W63 are formed like small cavities. When the terminal of the other optical fiber 1B is dipped into a clad dissolving solution 5, for example, buffer hydrofluoric acid by the prescribed depth for a prescribed peirod, only the clad of the fiber 1B is dissolved and convex parts 71W73 are formed according to respective cores. The fibers 1A and 1B whose terminals are treated as mentioned above are engated each other and the engaged part is fixed by applying an adherent used also for matching to the part. In the connecting method, one core is different from other cores and, especially, a multicore fiber consisting of plural cores with different diameters can be effectively connected.
