PURPOSE: To restrain the unevenness of temp. at the position of molten steel in a mold.

CONSTITUTION: This continuous casting apparatus is provided with electric magnets along the mold side composed of plural number of magnetic poles arranged along the mold sides surrounding the molten metal (MM) and plural number of electric coils for exciting each magnetic pole and a conducting means of DC of AC for applying braking force to molten metal flow in each electric coil. Further, this apparatus is provided with a detecting means of temp. distribution of the mold sides (S11-S1n, S21-S2n, S31-S3m, S41-S4m) and a control means 43 of temp. distribution for giving current command giving high braking force to the molten metal flow near the position having higher temp., to electric conducting means.
