PURPOSE: To shorten the roving length until a joint after sliver jointing is wound on a roving bobbin in a roving creel and reduce the remaining sliver in a nearly empty can to be exchanged.
CONSTITUTION: The sliver in a feed can 106 in a front-and-rear-directed row 106A of cans is taken in a tapered fashion so as to gradually increase backwards the quantity of the sliver in these cans, and prior to sliver jointing, a new sliver S1 is caught from a full-loaded bobbin F at preparatory position A using a relevant device 151 and prepared in a sliver feeder 152. At a point near sliver jointing timing, the new sliver S1 is fed to the sliver feed line for the feed can 106 being in the forefront of the row 106A of cans, and an existing sliver S2 is cut and both the new and existing slivers S1, S2 are suspended freely above an empty can conveyor 108. Both the slivers are then jointed to each other using a relevant device 1e followed by feeding a full-loaded can F into the rows 106A of cans and the virtually empty can 106 is discharged.
