Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the worsening of a combustion condition (a combustion failure) which occurs during deceleration resulting from fuel deposited inside an intake system, without the need for a complicated control mechanism.SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine which includes a variable valve timing mechanism (VVT) for an intake valve, a timing for opening the intake vale is advanced during the deceleration of the internal combustion engine so that gas in a combustion chamber flows back to the inside of the intake system to warm the inside of the intake system and the evaporation of the fuel deposited inside the intake system is promoted to cause the combustion of the fuel deposited inside the intake system at once. Thus, a period when the concentration of the fuel in air-fuel mixture is being too rich resulting from the evaporation of the fuel deposited inside the intake system is shortened to reduce the occurrence frequency of problems including, for example, a reduction in the output of the internal combustion engine, the worsening of fuel economy, the worsening of emission, the erosion of a catalyst due to an abnormal high temperature, misfire, engine stall, and the like.
