A split torque transmission 10 is provided with a mechanical transmission 14, a hydrostatic transmission 16, a microprocessor 18, a sensing device 20, and a command input device 22, and a working system 24 is connected to the final drive shaft 26 of the mechanical transmission 14. The mechanical transmission 14 is connected to an engine 12 through a gear device 30, and further transmits power to the hydrostatic transmission 16 through a motor output shaft 34. The microprocessor 18 monitors the output speed of the engine 12 and the respective transmissions 14, 16, the position of a speed pedal 62, the position of a range center lever 70, and the position of a direction control lever 66, and in response to the results, the mechanical transmission 14 and the hydrostatic transmission 16 are controlled.
