Images of individual fingerprints are recorded in an image information part 4, and cores as centers of fingerprints and information of core axes as axial directions of fingerprints are recorded in a feature information part 8 in addition to feature quantities of individual fingerprints. A collation control part 9 decides candidate fingerprints coinciding with or very resembling the collation object fingerprint based on feature quantities in the feature information part 8. When candidate fingerprints obtained as the result of collation and the image of the collation object fingerprint are displayed in the picture of a display device 2, a collation result display control part 11 refers to cores and information of core axes of individual fingerprints recorded in the feature information part 8 to display them so that the core of each fingerprint is placed at the center of its plotting area and the core axis of each fingerprint coincides with a preliminarily determined direction(for example, the vertical upward direction of the picture).
