PURPOSE: To make a copying machine having a document moving mode and an optical system moving mode, compact and inexpensive.

CONSTITUTION: An automatic document feeder 15 actuated in the document moving mode, an original cover 16 pressing a document in the optical system moving mode, and the document introducing guide 16a of the original document feeder 15 are divided/disposed on a table glass 2, and when the document carried in from the paper introducing guide 16a, is intruded into the automatic document feeder so as to be in parallel with the table glass 2, an introduced paper detector 18 detects the fact, to attain a changeover to the document moving mode, and the positions of the lens 6, and mirrors 7 and 8 of an optical system 10 are moved to automatically changeover a focal distance.
