Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a cutting tool made of Si3N4-based ceramics excellent in chipping resistance.
CONSTITUTION: This cutting tool is made of Si3N4-based ceramics having ≥99% theoretical density ratio as a sintered compact having a compsn. consisting of, by weight, 1-15% Y2O3, 1-10% oxide of a rare earth element, 0.5-5% SiO2, 1-15% one or more among ZrO2, partially stabilized ZrO2, HfO2 and partially stabilized HfO2 and the balance Si3N4 or further contg. 1-10% TiN.
