PURPOSE: To drive the title device by synchronizing with winding or rewinding of a film, and to always write a data character in a correct direction, by plural pieces of light emitting elements in the upper and the lower directions of a camera, and selecting the element to be used, in accordance with an image pickup direction of the camera.

CONSTITUTION: Plural light emitting elements (a)W(y) are placed on an image pickup screen 100 of a camera having a data insert-photographing function, and these elements (a)W(y) are arranged in the vertical direction against a winding direction A of a film. By an exposure controlling circuit 4 of a driving circuit of this camera, a depressed state of a release switch 1 is detected, and inputted to a winding controlling circuit 5 and a buffer 12. Also, the number of opening and closing of a switching 2 which is opened and closed by synchronizing with a rotation of a sprocket of the camera is counted by a counter 11, and the time immediately before starting a winding operation, from a time counting circuit 6 is applied to the buffer 12. An output of this counter 11 is inputted in parallel to a decoder 13, and transistors 100W124 for controlling the lighting of the elements (a)W(y) are selected by an output from the buffer 12.
