PURPOSE: To execute a normal image pickup, irrespective of the upper and the lower directions of a camera, by detecting a first arranged state of the camera, and a second arrange state that it has been rotated by about 180° from the first arranged state against a photographing optical axis, and inverting a data character in the first arranged state by a detecting signal of this state.

CONSTITUTION: The contents of a time counter 1 of a camera are sent to registers 2aW2f in accordance with a display digit, and its output is inputted to logical gates 4W19 being a data selector circuit group. An output of this circuit group is decoded by a decoder 30, and provided to exclusive ORs 31aW31g. To the other of these ORs 31aW31g, an output from an oscillator 40 for driving an indicator 39 is inputted. Also, a switch 29 which is turned ON and OFF in a reverse position and a normal position in a vertical position of the camera is provided on an output side of the counter 1, and by a pull-up resistance 41 and an invertor 28 which have been connected to this switch, a data is selected. In this state switching of the switch 29 is detected automatically, and displayed on the indicator 39.
