To provide a data management system to enable a user to refer to a document by a shortcut to enjoy convenience of a shortcut to the utmost without suffering from disadvantages by transferring the document to the user to be trouble if the document is deleted when the document referred by the shortcut is deleted.

The data management system is provided with a data storage means 510 to hold data, a deletion instructing means 220 to specify the data to be deleted in the data storage means 510, a judging means 230 to judge whether or not the data specified by the deletion instructing means 220 is referred to by the shortcut and an inquiry means 240 to inquire whether or not the data can be deleted or not to the user to refer it when the data is referred to by the shortcut by the judging means 230 and to transfer the data to a deleted data storage means 520.
