PURPOSE: To automate a file transfer job and at the same time to perform other processes during the file transfer by turning the corresponding data into a deep layer via a hierarchical file part in accordance with a process request and carrying out the due process regardless of the presence of a device.

CONSTITUTION: When a process request given from an external device of a certain work station 1 is accepted by a file processor 2 of a data processing system, the necessary files are transferred from a file part 8 based on the data corresponding to the process requests received from a transfer information record part 10 and a file control record part 13 of a surface layer area of a hierarchical control file part 3. Thus the processes are carried out in response to each process request. Furthermore the data received from the surface layer area is turned into a deep layer, and the corresponding file is transferred with the data based on the process requests received from an intermediate layer area and a deep layer area and regardless of the presence of a device. As a result, the file transfer job is automated and at the same time other processes can be carried out via a CRT, a keyboard, etc., even in a file transfer mode.
