PURPOSE: To easily switch the processing to a specific processing by displaying related works on a display means and selecting desired one from these works by a selecting means.

CONSTITUTION: When the document read operation is instructed to a scanner 13 for the purpose of reading in a document, a read condition set menu of the scanner 13 is displayed on a display device 17. A checker sets a read condition while seeing this menu. When picture data will be expanded on a memory, a select menu is displayed, and expansion on a main work memory is instructed through a keyboard 15 or a mouse 16. Then, the mode is switched to the picture editing mode for the purpose of executing the picture editing processing. Indicated icons are properly selected to indicate a desired editing work (f). After the end of this editing work, a check data input window is displayed by indicating the input of check data, and the checker inputs retrieval data from the keyboard 15.
