To provide a device for detecting catching in car doors that can, over the long term, accurately detect whether or not anything is trapped in a car door, even when the rubber trim around the door has lost elasticity and hardened.
When the CPU receives a 'teaching start signal,' it records the differential pressures between the air pressure in the hollow part of the door contact and the air pressure inside the fitting during motion between the closed and open positions of the doors as reference values P0 (S24, 25). When the 'measurement start signal' is received, the differential pressure between the air pressure inside the hollow part of the door contact when the car door is closed and the air pressure inside the hollow part of the fitting is detected as a detected value p (S27). Based on the difference between the detected value P and the reference values P0, it is judged whether or not there is anything caught in the door (S28, S29). Even if the rubber trim around the edge of the door loses elasticity and hardens, no influence is made on the difference between the reference values P0 or the detected value P, enabling accurate detection of, over the long term, whether or not anything is caught in a car door is enabled.
