Abstract:
PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for trouble diagnosis and to automatically localize trouble by starting a diagnostic program by a processor in a central processing unit to test a magnetic tape unit with test data and using a diagnostic table for the test result to perform trouble analysis. CONSTITUTION:A central processing unit 1 is provided with test data 11, where test data is divided to a part dependent upon a magnetic tape unit 4 and a part independent of it and is stored, and a diagnostic table 12 with which the trouble position is specified for the test result. A processor 13 in the unit 1 starts the diagnostic program and uses test data 11 to test the magnetic tape unit 4 and uses the diagnostic table 12 for the test result to perform trouble diagnosis. Thus, diagnosis of an MTC 2 and that of the MTU 4 are separated, and the diagnostic table 12 is used to automatically perform trouble analysis by collation and comparison with the test result, and the burden of a maintenance man is considerably reduced.
