Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new diol compound useful as an intermediate for vitamin A or its ester used as pharmaceuticals and feed additives.
CONSTITUTION: 9-(2,6,6-Trimethyl-1-cyclohexenyl)-3,7-dimethyl-1,8-nonadien--5- yne-3,7-dial of formula I. The diol compound of formula I can be produced by reacting 3-methyl-1-hexen-5-yn-3-ol with a base and reacting the resultant acetylide compound with β-ionone. The diol compound of formula I can be converted to vitamin A or its ester by the process of reaction formula.
