Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new acetylene-terminated compound capable of constructing a 20C skeleton from β-ionone by one-stage carbon-increasing reaction and useful as an intermediate for 7C vitamin A or its ester.
CONSTITUTION: The acetylene-terminated compound of formula I (R is H or acetyl), e.g. 3-methyl-2-hexen-5-yl acetate. The compound of formula I wherein It is acetyl can be produced by reacting 3-methyl-1-hexen-5-yn-3-ol with acetic anhydride in the presence of an acid catalyst and the other compound of formula I wherein R is H can be produced by hydrolyzing the obtained compound of R=acetyl. The acetylene-terminated compound of formula I can be induced to vitamin A or its ester by the process of reaction formula.
