Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the subject polymer made up of specific recurring unit, having a weight-average molecular weight not lower than a specified value, also having trialkylgermyl group, excellent in film formability, air permeability, solubility and heat resistance, thus useful for gas separation membranes, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polymer made up of recurring unit of formula I (R is trialkylgermyl) and having a weight-average molecular weight of ≥10000, which can be obtained by polymerizing a compound of formula II [e.g. 1-(o- trimethylgermylphenyl)-2-phenylacetylene] in a solvent such as benzene in the presence of a catalyst such as niobium pentachloride or triethylaluminum.
