PURPOSE: To obtain a new recombinant DNA sequence capable of accumulating a high intracellular level of cephalosporin C.
CONSTITUTION: This recombinant DNA sequence contains a recombinant DNA sequence or its restriction fragment containing a gene capable of coding a deacetylcephalosporin C(DAC) acetyltransferase available from Acremonium chrysogenum at the time of expressing the DAC acetyltransferase activity without containing a gene capable of coding a natural diacetoxycephalosporin C synthase(DAOCS)/deacetylcephalosporin C synthase(DACS) polypeptide at the time of expression thereof,. e.g. the one having the base sequence represented by the formula. A DNA sequence capable of coding the DAC acetyltransferase activity is isolated from a $7 kb DNA compound isolated from an Acremonium chrysogenum genomic DNA using a similar DNA sequence to that disclosed in the specification of European Patent Publication No. 281391.
