PURPOSE: To obtain a fishing reel capable of preventing its return to a fishing line winding state with rotation of a handle in a free state, when it is changed to a spool free state by a clutch mechanism.

CONSTITUTION: In a double bearing type reel capable of changing a state of spool from a fishing line winding state to a spool free state and returning to the winding state again with rotation of a handle 6 by means of a clutch mechanism 14, a depressing part 15 is provided in a clutch cam 11 of the clutch mechanism 14, to prevent rotation of the handle by giving a resistance to the rotation of rotating parts of a handle shaft 7, a reverse rotation preventing ratchet 9, or a pinion 5, etc., with the depressing part 15 interlocking with the switching action of the clutch cam 11.
