PURPOSE: To obtain a fishing reel capable of rapidly and reliably returning to a condition for winding up similar to that before stopping a motor, by an operation of automatic winding switch, for better fishing result than that in a current practice.

CONSTITUTION: In an electric motor driven fishing reel capable of preventing restarting of a spool motor 7 while its ON or OFF is made by operation of ON/OFF switch 71, unless a control lever is returned once to '0' state, an automatic winding up switch capable of stopping the spool motor 7 by its operation while driving the motor, and restarting it in next operation with returning to a winding condition at a displaced operating position of a control lever 65 before stopping it, is provided on the reel body.
