Abstract:
PURPOSE:To realize proper detection by retrieving and scanning a binary image of a face part from the center thereof, catching the face and detecting an end of the face. CONSTITUTION:An image input means CL1 inputs an image of a face including eyes. A binarizing means CL2 binarizes the image and then, a white pixel counting means CL3 scans the binary image from the central part thereof at least in one of the right and left directions thereby to count the number of continuous white pixels. A face end specifying means CL4 specifies an end point where the number of the white pixels becomes maximum as an end of the face. A right and left eyeball area determining means CL5 determines the position in the lateral direction of the area where the eyes are present from the specified width of the face. A black area detecting means CL6 detects a black area from the lower part in the longitudinal direction of the lateral area of the eyes. A longitudinal eyeball area determining means CL7 determines, on the basis of the black area, the position in the longitudinal direction of the area where the eyes are present. Moreover, an iris detecting means CL8 detects the part of the iris from the determined area of the eyes, and a decision means CL9 decides whether a driver is dozing or the like from the detecting result.
