PURPOSE: To simplify mechanical construction and control by driving a lever which guides a dummy bar from a mold to a drawing device and the drawing device by means of a common driving source and providing a mechanism for disconnecting the bar from the lever.

CONSTITUTION: A dummy bar 13 is attached to the tip of a turning lever 12 having the fulcrum at the center of an arc 11 connecting a mold 9 and a drawing device 10. The speed reducer 16 of a driving device 15 is driven by a motor 17 to turn the lever 12 via a speed reducer 18, a pinion 19 and a sector gear 14, thereby drawing a billet 24 integrally with the bar 13. A drawing roll 23 is at the same time driven by a speed reducer 16 via a speed reducer 20, a universal joint 21 and a speed reducer 22 to transmit the drawing force to the bar 13 arriving at the positions of rolls 23W23'''. The bar 13 is then disconnected from the lever 12 and is drawn together with the billet 24 to the outside of the machine. The lever for the dummy bar and the drawing device are thus driven simultaneously by one driving source, and the mechanical construction and control system are simplified.
