Abstract:
To provide an energy absorbing device that utilizes various energy absorption relationships between device members to absorb energy input and a method of using the same, wherein the energy absorption process occurs through a material deformation process.SOLUTION: As shown in the figure (an example), an SRL may have a rotating disk 20, a die 21 forms part of the rotating disk 20 or is integral with the rotating disk 20. An undeformed wire 2 is wrapped around the disk 20 and fixed at its free end to an SRL housing 22. When energy input is applied to the rotating disk 20 above a predetermined level, the wire 2 is forced through the die 21, so that materials are deformed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
