PURPOSE: To exactly measure a spin concn. by using diamond having Ib type nitrogen as a paramagnetic center as a standard sample for determining the spin concn. of unpaired electrons by comparison.
CONSTITUTION: The Ib type diamond is selected as the standard sample for determining the spin concn. of the unpaired electrons by comparison. A spin echo is used as the method for calibrating the spin concn. The isolated dispersion type nitrogen (Ib type nitrogen) is included in the Ib type diamond and since the Ib type nitrogen is substd. with the carbon existing at the lattice point, this nitrogen has one unpaired electron which is the paramagnetic center of S=1/2. The nitrogen in the diamond is extremely physically and chemically stable and the Ib type nitrogen has moderately a long longitudinal relaxation time and allows the observation of the spin echo. The evaluation of the bipole- bipole interaction between the Ib type nitrogens is, therefore, possible. The local concn. of the Ib type nitrogen of the diamond is determined with good accuracy in this way.
