Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate detoxification of sulfur poisoning of a NOX adsorbent.
SOLUTION: Particulate filters(DPF) 10a, 10b are arranged on exhaust passages 6a, 6b of a Desiel engine 1. The DPF includes a metallic substrate and carrier a NOX absorbent on the exhaust contact part. An electronic control unit(ECU) 30 practices sulfur poisoning detoxifying operation by blocking exhaust inflowing into the DPF by switching the position of an exhaust change- over valve when SOX absorbing quantity by the LPF in operation increases and emits the absorbed SOX as maintaining the DPF to a high temperature and rich air-fuel ratio atmosphere. Upon completion of SOX emission, particulates collected by the DPF are burnt. For this reason, SOX is not absorbed in the NOX absorbent while the NOX absorbent is exposed to high temperature and lean air-fuel ratio due to particulate combustion and thus difficulties are not found in sulfur poisoning detoxification caused by roughness of sulfur salt particles in the NOX absorbent.
