Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent exfoliation of an expansible seal material and obtain a seal effect with durability, by impregnating and combining an inorganic binding agent to a specific dimensional thickness from one end of an inlet side of exhaust gas in the expansible seal material provided between a ceramic molded body and a metallic vessel. CONSTITUTION:At manufacturing, a honeycomb shaped monolithic ceramic molded body 1 equipped with many through holes is manufactured and a catalyst is held to this body 1. Then an expansible seal material 2 is molded by, for instance, vermiculite or the like, after an inorganic binding agent, for instance, water glass is impregnated from one side end of the material 2 to a thickness 1mm.-15mm., for instance, 5mm., said seal material 2 is wound to the side peripheral part almost in full surfaces of the body 1. Succeessively, a wire mesh 3 is wound to the side peripheral part in the rest of the body 1 approximate to the rear side. Then these materials are housed in a two-divided metallic vessel 4, and this vessel 4 is combined to form an exhaust gas processor.
