To provide method for treating an exhaust gas from a melting furnace where the disturbance of secondary combustion due to a cooling agent can be suppressed to a low level, high-temperature treatment can be made stably in a secondary combustion process, and at the same time an operation disturbance problem such as the blocking of a duct or the like can be prevented.
The exhaust gas treatment device that is provided at the latter stage of a plasma arc type melting furnace is divided in to a secondary combustion chamber and a cooling chamber by providing a narrow part at the former stage of a refrigerant introduction port from a refrigerant pipe, an exhaust gas channel from a secondary combustion chamber entrance to a cooing chamber exit is arranged so that it is directed in nearly a vertical direction from a lower part to an upper part, or the exhaust gas treatment device is divided into the secondary combustion chamber and the cooling chamber via a lining duct, and a dust-eliminating device is arranged at the lining duct.
