Abstract:
To cause sufficient chemical reaction of a target component in exhaust gas while suppressing electric power consumption in an electrochemical reactor.SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device includes: an electrochemical reactor 45 disposed in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine; and a power source device 81 supplying an electric current to the electrochemical reactor. The electrochemical reactor includes a cell 78 having an ion conductive solid electrolyte layer 75 and an anode layer 76 and a cathode layer 77 that are disposed on the surface of the solid electrolyte layer, and causes chemical reaction of a target component in exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust passage when an electric current flows in the anode layer and the cathode layer. The power source device supplies an electric current to be caused to flow in the anode layer and the cathode layer. The cell and the power source device are configured so that in a region of the cell where a concentration of the target component in surrounding exhaust gas is relatively large, an electric current flowing between the anode layer and the cathode layer becomes large, compared to in a region of the cell where the concentration of the target component in the surrounding exhaust gas is relatively small.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
