PURPOSE: To manufacture a fiber body for composite material improved in mechanical properties, by allowing fine grains, short fibers, etc., consisting of heat-resisting material such as carbon to adhere to the surface of continuous fibers composed of a ceramic, etc., and by forming a bundle of continuous fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A bundle of continuous fibers consisting of the continuous fibers containing, as constituent, at least one kind selected among ceramics (SiC, Al2O3, etc.), carbon, and metals (copper, stainless steel, etc.) or a woven fabric composed of the above-mentioned bundle of continuous fibers is immersed into a treating solution (ethanol, etc.) in which fine grains and short fibers and/or whiskers consisting of at least one kind selected from the same heat-resisting materials such as ceramics, carbon, and metal as mentioned above are suspended. Ultrasonic vibrations are applied to the above treating solution and the fine grains, short fibers, and whiskers are allowed to adhere to the surface of each individual continuous fiber, so that fibers for composite material can be manufactured. At this time, the ratios of the above- mentioned adhering fine grains or short fibers and/or whiskers to the continuous fibers are regulated to about (0.1W5W40):1 by volume ratio, respectively, and also the total amount of the above based on the continuous fibers is regulated to about 0.1W500% by volume.
