PURPOSE: To easily manufacture a dense fiber-reinforced metallic sheet having high specific strength, by supplying a molten metal while passing inorganic fibers in a woven-fabric state between parallel rolls so as to form a sheet-like fiber-reinforced metal and further by pressurizing the above by means of rolls for rolling.
CONSTITUTION: A woven fabric 12 prepared by previously forming inorganic fibers into a woven-fabric state and applying pretreatment to the above is heated to the prescribed temp. and passed between two main rolls 20 provided in parallel with each other, and simultaneously, molten Al 17 of the prescribed temp. is poured through a feeding hole 18. At this time, the molten Al 17 is covered with an inert gas so as to prevent the formation of an oxide film. While infiltrated with the molten Al 17, the woven fabric 12 is passed between the main rolls 20, and the resulting fiber-reinforced metallic sheet 19 is temporarily wound up in a coil via pinch rolls 21. Subsequently, structure is made dense by passing the metallic sheet 19 wound up in a coil, while rewinding, between rolls for rolling. In this way, the fiber-reinforced metallic sheet 19 excellent in strength can be easily obtained.
