Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a friction material which causes no fear of adverse influence on human body, no possibility of turning red and deterioration of a binding material component, and no generation of dust when the raw materials of a friction material are mixed, and no deviated deposition.
SOLUTION: In a friction material contg. a fiber component, a binder component such as a thermosetting resin and a filler component and prepd. at least through a mixing process for raw materials of the friction material, a molding process and a heat-treating process, the main component of the binder is a phenol aralkyl resin and the friction material is obtd. by kneading (granulating) the raw materials with water or an aqueous medium after the raw materials are mixed in the mixing process for raw materials of the friction material. As the binder component, it is pref. that only a phenol aralkyl resin and a curing agent for curing it are used. As the curing agent, hexamine is pref. As the aqueous medium, a mixed liq. of one of water and a latex and at least one selected from among polyethylene oxide, sodium polyacrylate and methyl cellulose is pref.
