Abstract:

To provide a friction stir welding method by which a first workpiece and a second workpiece can be joined even if the workpieces are arranged through a gap.

In a state where a first end face 12 of the first workpiece W1 and a second end face 14 of the second workpiece W2 form a slope with each other and are oppositely arranged through a gap G, there is offset on the first workpiece W1 side a probe 18 comprising a friction stir welding tool 10, with the first and the second workpiece W1, W2 joined by friction stir welding. By the offsetting of the probe 18, plastic flow is induced in the first workpiece W1 as the advancing side, with the gap G filled thereby.
