Abstract:
To provide a fuel cell activation system and a method of operating a fuel cell activation system, capable of maintaining a hydrogen concentration at a cathode low during activation and capable of properly processing hydrogen at the cathode.SOLUTION: A fuel cell system in the present disclosure includes a fuel cell stack comprising a plurality of stacked single cells, hydrogen gas supply means, oxygen-containing gas supply means, a plurality of loads provided to correspond individually to each of the single cells, and a controller. When the fuel cell stack is activated, the controller operates the oxygen-containing gas supply means so that the supply and stop of the oxygen-containing gas to a cathode are alternately repeated, in the state where each of the single cells and a load corresponding to each of the single cells are electrically connected to form a closed circuit and hydrogen gas is supplied to an anode by the hydrogen gas supply means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
