Title:
FUEL CELL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01117276
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent a reaction gas from leaking and from reacting directly by reserving an area not provided with catalyst around a substrate constituting a pair of gas diffusion electrodes having a fuel gas passage and an oxidization agent gas passage. CONSTITUTION:An edge seal portion 11 is formed on a rib forming side of a substrate 10 constituting a ribbed electrode. A catalyst layer 14 held by or applied to the substrate 10 is not provided in the endmost portion of the substrate 10. Namely 15-30mm of non-application area 10a is reserved on the periphery of the substrate 10 where a covering portion 15 is formed with a material having resistance or affinity to phosphoric acid such as SiC. With such a constitution, even if a fluid flows through the catalyst layer 14, the flow passage is closed, a reaction gas does not leak out to an opposite electrode to prevent direct reaction of the reaction gas and to improve reliability.
