To obtain a fuel oil composition having a high cetane number and good ignitability and reduced in the amount of a particulate substance and CO generated during combustion and exhausted in a waste gas by mixing a mineral oil as the principal component with a dialkyl phthalate compound and a glycol ether compound in a specified ratio.
This composition comprises a mineral oil as the principal component, 2-13wt.% at least one dialkyl phthalate compound (A) represented by formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1-8C alkyl) and 2-13wt.% at least one dialkyl ether compound (B) represented by formula II (wherein R3 is a 1-4C alkyl; R4 is H, a 1-4C alkyl or a 2-4C aliphatic acyl; R5 is ethylene or trimethylene; and m is 1-4) and has a total content of components A and B of 4-15wt.%. The compound of formula I is exemplified by diethyl phthalate, and the compound of formula II is exemplified by diethylene glycol dimethyl ether.
