PURPOSE: To provide a mild functional confection having excellent flavor and taste and having good physiologically active functions such as physical fitness reinforcement, fatigue recovery and vitality improvement by compounding octacosanol with the raw materials of the confection.

CONSTITUTION: A 28C straight chain aliphatic alcohol, octacosanol, is prepared by e.g. a method wherein a vegetable wax is collected from wheat embryo, alfalfa grass, apple pericarp, rice bran, etc., and the octacosanol contained therein is separated and concentrated from the vegetable wax. The octacosanol is compounded with the raw materials of the confection and processed into the confection which contains the octacosanol and does not give a rough tongue touch. The octacosanol is suitably compounded in an amount of approximately 0.01-2 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the raw materials of the confection when the octacosanol having a purity of 10% is employed.
