To obtain the subject compound useful for a carcinostatic agent, etc., industrially advantageously by propagating a microorganism having a recombinant plasmid containing a nucleotide encoding a protein A like active substance having a specific amino acid sequence, and then recovering the active substance.

This protein A like substance useful as a carcinostatic agent, etc., is obtained by extracting a genom DNA from the cultured material of Staphylococcus aureus cowan I(SAC) (ATTCC 12598) in a usual method, cloning the genom by using a DNA fragment encoding the protein A like material, incorporating a nucleotide sequence encoding the protein A like active substance having the amino acid sequence containing the amino acid sequence expressed by the formula, or the sub-fragment of the sequence into an expression vector to prepare a recombinant plasmid, inserting the same into a microorganism such as E. coli to transform the microorganism, propagating the transformed bacteria for expressing the gene, and recovering the expressed substance.
