PURPOSE: To produce the title copolymer in high yield and high graft efficiency, by graft-polymerizing pendant vinylidene groups of a specific styrene polymer with an anionically polymerizable monomer.
CONSTITUTION: 0.1W100mol% monomer of formula I [wherein R1 and H or 1W4 C linear or branched alkyl; and R2 is a 2W10 C linear or branched alkyl or alkoxy phenyl which may be substituted, or tri(1W4 C) alkylsilyl and 0W99.9mol% monomer of formula II (wherein R3 is 1W4 C linear or branched alkyl or phenyl which may be substituted) are reacted to produce a styrene polymer having pendant vinylidene groups of a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 1,000W1000,000. Then, the pendant vinylidene groups of the polymer and an organic metallic compound of formula III (wherein M is a metal atom of Group 1a of the periodic table; and R4 is an organic group) are reacted to yield a metallized polymer. Then, using this polymer as a macroanion polym erization initiator, a monomer which can be anionically polymerized from each metallized site is graft-copolymerized so that the Mn of each graft chain may be 500W1000,000.
