PURPOSE: To produce easily an uncolored graft copolymer suitable for coatings, etc. in high graft efficiency, by copolymerizing a macromonomer having a specific composition with a copolymerizable monomer.
CONSTITUTION: A polymer (A) having an end carboxyl group (e.g., a polymer of methyl acrylate obtained by the polymerization using a polymerization initiator containing a free carboxyl group in the molecule, a chain transfer agent, etc.) and an unsaturated basic aziridine compound (B) (e.g., a compound of formula II or II), and at least one compound (C) selected from the group consisting of monoisocyanates, ketenes, and ketene dimers (e.g., propyl isocyanate or methylketene) are reacted to produce a macromonomer. Then, the resulting macromonomer and a copolymerizable monomer (e.g., acrylic acid) are copolymerized to yield the aimed graft copolymer.
