PURPOSE: To improve operability and miniaturize a heat-sensitive transfer type polychromatic recorder without using carbon paper by using general paper instead of special recording paper, transferring inks of the ink layers of three primary colors formed on a plurality of ink layer forming media thereto one upon another and then mixing the colors on heating.
CONSTITUTION: Provided are ink layers 33, 34 and 35 for three colors, e.g., red, blue and yellow respectively and an ink layer 36 for black of high density if necessary. Polychromatic data is identified with three primary colors and inputted as recording signals. First, the red signal is inputted to a thermal head 37 to transfer red ink to a general recording paper 41 in a dot-matrix format. Then, as the recording paper 41 is successively fed by several pitches, blue and yellow inks are successively transferred thereto one upon another by thermal heads 38 and 39 respectively. Then, while being fed by several pitches, the recording paper 41 is heated by a heater 44 in order to melt and mix the inks of three colors. In addition, varying the transfer amount of inks or the mixing ratio among tghe three colors permits multimixed colors to be obtained.
