To provide a hermetically sealed cell of low cost, and the cell having superior sealing and insulating properties.
The hermetically sealed cell has a metal casing 11 of cylindrical shape with bottom which encases positive electrodes 21, negative electrodes 22 and an electrolyte 13, and a metal lid 16 to close the opening 14 of the casing 11 with a gasket 15 therebetween. The gasket 15 is composed of a polymer injection-molded and ionizing radiation crosslinked, wherein the polymer is polyethylene, polyvinylidenefluoride, a compound of polyethylene and fluororubber, or a compound of polyvinylidenefluoride and fluororubber. Hence, this invention allows the continuous production of the gaskets by injection molding and reduces production cost. The crosslinking of the gasket enhances its thermal-resistance and makes it less softening, thereby maintaining the sealing effect of the cell in a heating atmosphere.
