To prevent the embrittlement of a hydrogen separation film without complicating a hydrogen separation system and without using an attendant apparatus, e.g. a battery or a power generation system, for heating the hydrogen separation film in preparing purified hydrogen from a hydrogen-containing reformed gas using the hydrogen separation film.
The hydrogen purification system has a self-standing type reforming reactor 1 for reforming fuel; a hydrogen separation film module 3 which is connected in series to the reforming reactor 1 and has a hydrogen separation film 2 for separating hydrogen from a reformed gas produced by the reforming reactor 1; and a control unit 12 to control the flow rates of raw materials (fuel and air) and steam charged into the reforming reactor 1. When the hydrogen purification system is started, the ratio of the concentration of hydrogen supplied to the hydrogen separation film 2 and contained in the reformed gas produced by the reforming reactor 1 to the concentration of carbon monoxide is controlled to a specified value or lower by the control unit 12.
